Class Attendance and Withdrawal
Covid19 Attendance Policy
If you feel unwell you should not attend class. If someone you have had contact with tests positive for COVID-19 you should not attend class and make every effort to procure a test. In an effort to facilitate essential health practices, absence will have no direct impact on grading in this course. All assignments will be submitted via CougarView so that work can progress smoothly even for those who are forced to stay home.
“Partial” absences such as lateness are a different matter entirely. If you are attending it is important to arrive at the start of class, since I will be delivering a great deal of information and instruction at the start of class. The structured nature and frequent deadlines in this course make it imperative that all individuals stay current and evenly paced. Prompt and punctual attendance is a general predictor of success in this course.
Attendance is mandatory - absences and lateness will affect your grade.
Students who test positive and/ in quarantine will not be counted as absent.
You are responsible for information missed due to an absence or lateness.
A student is permitted to accumulate a total of nine (9) hours of absences in a three credit- hour course without exclusion. An instructor may exclude a student and assign the grade of “WF” upon accumulation of 10 or more hours of absences, or the equivalent in courses carrying fewer credit hours.
You have 9 hours of absences any absence after 9 hours will result in the loss of one letter grade. Attendance is taken at the beginning of class and at the end of class if need be. Coming to class 60 minutes late and leaving 60 mins early will result in missing 1 hour of class day. .
Being asked to leave for inappropriate conduct or safety infraction such as use of mobile phones, being unprepared for class or behaving in a manner that threatens the safety of yourself or others will count as an absence.
Excessive absence policy Anytime during the semester when a student exceeds the total number of hours of absences allowed (4 absences), an instructor may drop the student for excessive absences with a grade of WF. Students may regain admittance to a course only by permission of the instructor. A student auditing a course who fails to meet class participation and assignment requirements or who exceeds the total number of allowed absences may be dropped from the course by the instructor and assigned a grade of W. Any grade assigned as a W, WF, WC, or WM may result in a student debt to VA.
If you are not able to attend class due to regular illness, please send an email to indicate that you will be absent. In lieu of attending class, you may access the course materials through CougarView, and participate remotely until such time that you are able to return to class. Please keep me informed on your ability to return to class, in accordance with CDC guidelines, as it is important for me to know when to expect you in-person.
Emotional and Mental Health Statement
Your emotional and mental health is very important and can affect your ability to meet your academic responsibility. Part and fulltime students have free access to mental health counseling through the CSU Counseling Center. You can call to set up an appointment: 706-507-8740. If you are in crisis during non-business hours, please call the Georgia Crisis Line: 1-800-715-4225.

Administrative withdrawal An academic dean may withdraw a student from a course when, in consultation with the instructor, the dean determines that the student has not satisfied the prerequisites for the course.
The University System of Georgia (USG) recommends all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings. Face covering use will be in addition to and is not a substitute for social distancing. All classrooms will be set up in adherence to physical distancing guidelines. While certain lab and studio courses may not meet the 6-feet recommendation, students and faculty are required to wear face coverings and adhere to the necessary sanitation requirements for the lab or studio space.

Policy and Guidelines for the studio:
Usage
The studio space is a place where you make work. It is not a storage space. You are expected to be using these studios at all times for your professional development.
If the lack of performance and usage of the space is evident, you will be asked to vacate the space.
Cleanliness of Studio Space
You are required to keep your individual space as well as the general area reasonably clean. Although everyone has different working habits, there are limits past which the condition of a space interferes with the ability of other people to work. Discarding trash that may accumulate in the general studio areas will help keep our studios clean and functional. All aisle and exit routes must be cleared at all times. No curtain in the studios unless it’s for medical reasons.
Health & Safety
You are NEVER to use toxic materials which could be a danger or irritation to you or others. You are NEVER to smoke, drink, eat or sleep in your studio space. If these rules are broken you will be asked to leave the studios permanently.
Security of Personal Belongings
The security of personal belongings is your responsibility. If you choose to leave supplies/materials in the studio spaces, please understand that the Department of Art is not responsible for the safety/security of those materials/items. Please keep the main doors locked at all times, do not provide access to unauthorized guests, and report any inappropriate behavior or theft.
Respectfulness in Studios
Be courteous to your fellow studio users. You are not permitted to play loud music in the studios. It could interfere with the concentration of others working. Please use headphones. Individuals who have not signed out of the studio must not enter the studio space. Please keep studio visitors to a minimum so as not to disturb others working in the space. Nude paintings can be done within the studio only if the artist contacts the Studio Manager prior to the date and time of the painting to discuss the guidelines required for a nude studio session.
Check Out Condition
When you vacate your studio, the studio should be in the same or better condition than when you received access. You are responsible for that space while you have it signed out. If it needs to be cleaned up (examples: art supplies have to be removed) you will be charged for clean up.
Studio Privilege
Studio sign out is a privilege, failure to comply (breaking any of the rules & procedures) will lead to your privilege being revoked. These spaces are exclusively for professional activities. Certain responsibilities must be adhered to when using studios. You must be aware of and adhere to Federal and State regulations for health and safety, and fire prevention, as well as to the studio sign out policies. This document has detailed the studio sign out policy, general guidelines for use, housekeeping, safety, and fire prevention guidelines. Every week studios will be inspected for compliance. If you are found to be neglecting the regulations, you may be fined and/or lose your studio privilege permanently.
The building and studio space are here for your use during normal operating hours. The phone number for campus police is 706 507 8911.
Learning Environment: Students and course instructors share the responsibility for maintaining an appropriate, orderly learning environment. Mobile telephones and pagers are not permitted. Students who fail to adhere to the behavioral expectations outlined by the instructor may be subject to discipline in accordance with the procedures described in the Student Handbook. Do not schedule doctor's appointments or any other engagements during class time. They also count as an absence.
